Financial institutions (FIs) can monetize the mobile channel.

It is simply not enough for FIs to offer a mobile option; they must find a way to make it profitable. Consumers utilize their mobile devices when it is most convenient for them. For a busy mom, that could be at 8pm after she gets the kids to bed or for a bakery owner that may mean at 4am before he gets to the shop. Because FIs are able to provide extremely targeted and personalized offers to consumers in real-time through mobile devices, mobile as a channel may lead to the opening of more accounts across the organization if used to cross-sell at these opportune times. In addition to targeted offers, FIs might be able to generate additional revenue from new service fees that customers are willing to pay within the mobile channel. Consumers are not going to be happy with additional fees unless they see the value. For example, funds deposited through remote deposit capture can be available immediately for $5, overnight for $3, or after the standard processing time for no charge. This allows customers to choose what works best for them and whether they want to pay a fee.
