Zoot Enterprises Reports Successful SAS 70 Audit
Instant Credit Decisioning Company Demonstrates Compliance with Type II Audit
May 22, 2006
Hollywood, Fla – Zoot Enterprises, a leading provider of advanced instant credit decisioning and loan origination solutions, announced at the 18th Annual SourceMedia Card Forum & Expo that it has successfully completed the Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 70, Service Organizations, Type II compliance audits. The SAS 70 is an internationally recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and confirms that a service organization has been through an in-depth audit of its information technology and operational processes.
"Traditionally, Zoot has been audited by our clients, including top 10 financial institutions, but we wanted to add the SAS 70 level of certification because of the current security and regulatory environment," said Chris Nelson, Zoot CEO and founder. "One year ago, Zoot was Type I SAS 70 compliant, and this year, as of April 7, we are Type II compliant. Over the past year, the outside auditing staff has rigorously audited our processes and procedures, performing data collection for a number of procedures to ensure we actually follow the procedures and the plan that we set forth. Completing this audit is important because service providers must demonstrate that they have adequate controls and safeguards when hosting or processing any type of consumer data."
The SAS 70 review was performed by an independent auditing firm, which analyzed Zoot's business practices through an extensive examination of the company's information technology systems. The auditors focused on several key components including Zoot's organizational structure and control environment as well as internal and external security factors.
"With the requirements of Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, SAS 70 audits are even more important to our internal reporting processes and controls," said Tony Rosanova, Chief Technology Officer at Zoot Enterprises. "We chose to conduct this audit so that we can further enhance our own security and demonstrate compliance to our client financial institutions and credit-issuing companies. The SAS 70 audit allows us to have our internal policies and procedures evaluated and tested by an external, independent auditor and reveals opportunities for improvements in our operational areas. This will enable Zoot to continue offering flexible and highly secure credit decisioning solutions that reduce risk and improve performance."
There are two types of SAS 70 audit reports: Type I and Type II. Type I describes the service organization's policies and procedures at a specific point in time and Type II includes the organization's description of controls and a detailed testing of the controls over a minimum of six months. An organization must successfully complete a Type I audit before beginning a Type II audit.
The policies and procedures reviewed in the SAS 70 audit are based on compliance standards such as Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC), Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and ISO 9000 standards.
